Mark R. Graham
Abingdon

Mark Graham, of Abingdon, is a director in the law firm of Boucher, Hutton & Graham and is a graduate of Emory & Henry College and the University of Richmond School of Law.

Prior to his appointment to the State Board for Community Colleges, he served on the Virginia Highlands Community College Board for more than four years after having been an adjunct professor teaching paralegals there for eight years. 

Mr. Graham was appointed to the State Board by Governor Mark Warner in March of 2002 to fill an unexpired term. He was appointed by Governor Warner for a four-year term in July of 2002 and reappointed by Governor Tim Kaine for a second four-year term in July of 2006.

He is a past president of the Abingdon Rotary Club and a past assistant governor for Rotary International. He has also served as board president for The Crisis Center in Bristol, a division chair for United Way of Washington County, and chairman of the Washington County Democratic Committee.

In 2005, the Alumni Association of Emory & Henry College presented him with a humanitarian award in recognition of his work on behalf of education.

Mr. Graham was elected chairman of the State Board for 2007-2008 and served as vice chairman for 2006-2007.  He serves as liaison to Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap and Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon.
