Alan Toxopeus (tox-o-pay-us) was appointed to the State Board for Community Colleges by Governor Warner in 2002 and was reappointed to a second four-year term by Governor Tim Kaine in July 2006. He serves as State Board Chair for the 2006-07 year and was vice chair for 2005-06. Mr. Toxopeus has been an active member of the Lord Fairfax Community College Foundation Board. He previously served for eight years on the Lord Fairfax Community College local advisory board and was chair in 1992-93.
A certified public accountant, Mr. Toxopeus is active in many Winchester area organizations, including the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, the Winchester/Frederick County United Fund, the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, and the Winchester Rotary Club.
He attended community college in Muskegon, Michigan in the 1950s, and has a master’s in accounting and a bachelor’s in business administration from Michigan State University. He completed the Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership. He has been a member of the Winchester Planning Commission and was an officer of the Wayside Foundation for the Arts.
He is a State Board Liaison with Lord Fairfax Community College and with Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
