Excellence in Education Awards

The New Horizons Excellence in Education (EIE) awards acknowledge the enhancement of student success within the VCCS. Student success is enhanced by an array of strategies: pen and paper as well as mouse and keyboard, collaborative work, classroom assessments, and dynamic discussions prompted by thoughtful questions. All of these strategies, and others, can find a home and be celebrated in these awards.

Within the EIE awards there are three categories: 1) Best Practices in Teaching Face-to-Face, Online and Student Success, 2) Improving Student Success – Institutional, and 3) Innovative Use of Technology in the Face-to-Face and Online Classroom.

Finalists will display their projects to the public during the Wednesday, March 21, 2012 evening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Crystal Ballroom. Note that from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. our panel of judges will visit each table for a final evaluation of all the entries and will select the winners. At 5:30 p.m. all are welcome to meet with the finalists and talk with them about their projects.

Winners will be announced at our Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Click on the link above to view this year’s winners of the Hotel Roanoke room reservation lottery. An email with complete instructions for claiming reservations will be sent to all winners Friday, January 13, 2012. Please remember that this lottery is not for a free room, only for a reservation at Hotel Roanoke. VCCS policy provides for one night’s lodging for each VCCS employee. To avoid out-of-pocket costs for the second night, we encourage sharing a room with a colleague so that both nights can be covered.
