  1. Why is the change happening right now?

    Several events have occurred in the last period of time that are coming together and driving this. First, the VCCS Professional Development program was assessed in 2006. One recommendation from that assessment was to clarify the mission and boundaries of the Office of Professional Development. The system-wide Professional Development Committee has expressed a desire to more closely align the activities of the office to teaching and learning. And lastly, a belt-tightening of the current economic situation have all called for this type of reflective change.

  2. Once our peer group has been approved, how long will it be until we have to reapply?

    6 years

  3. Can I submit an application on my own to become a peer group?

    No. The purpose of the program is to help faculty and personnel within the VCCS in similar disciplines or with similar functions to come together to network, share best practices, and serve our students and communities better. To that end, we will create a means for people from across the state to work together (a Blackboard site) and provide support for meetings. We hope this strengthens the collaborative work throughout the system.

First Day

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
