State Board for Community Colleges Agenda for November Business Meeting
RICHMOND – The State Board for Community Colleges will convene its regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 9 a.m. in the 15th floor Godwin-Hamel Board Room in the James Monroe Building, 101 N. 14th Street, Richmond.
State Board Committees will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center in Glen Allen. The Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee meet at 1:30 p.m.; the Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee meet at 3 p.m.; the Personnel Committee meets at 3:30 p.m. and the Executive Committee meets at 5 p.m. Agenda items for the regular business meeting on Thursday include:
Chancellor’s Report – A new strategic plan, ACHIEVE 2015, will be presented by Chancellor Glenn DuBois and the Strategic Planning Task Force. The plan will succeed the current Dateline 2009 strategic plan and will present key goals for Virginia’s Community Colleges for the years 2010-2015.
Budget and Finance – The State Board will consider actions to address state budget reductions. Budget cuts have totaled $105 million since 2008. Full-time-equivalent enrollment during the same time to the present is expected to increase more than 22 percent.
Academic, Student Affairs & Workforce – The State Board will consider approval of a new associate of applied science degree in early childhood education at Lord Fairfax Community College, and a new associate of applied science in energy technology at Virginia Highlands Community College. The board will also consider a policy manual change that will waive physical education requirements for veterans. Other proposed policy manual changes modify wording regarding the grading system and regarding the requirement for substance abuse policies.
Facilities – The State Board will consider schematic drawings of new or renovated buildings at the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College and for a motorsports/workforce development center at Patrick Henry Community College. A proposed real estate transfer at Virginia Western Community College will be considered, as well as a transfer of land from Tidewater Community College to the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation.
Personnel - The State Board will receive information on the Chancellor’s Faculty Diversity Initiative and on pandemic flu preparations within Virginia’s Community Colleges.
