Virginia Wesleyan College Signs Guaranteed Admission Agreement
Virginia Wesleyan becomes the 19th systemwide guaranteed admission agreement to benefit community colleges

Virginia Wesleyan College (VWC) has signed a statewide guaranteed admission agreement with Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) that will promote transfer and ease transition to the college for Virginia community college graduates.

The guaranteed admission agreement allows community college students who complete an associate’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher to transfer to Virginia Wesleyan College with junior standing.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for community college students to transfer seamlessly to one of the nation’s best liberal arts institutions,” said Virginia Wesleyan President Billy Greer. “Virginia Wesleyan is proud to be part of a partnership that makes higher education more accessible to a broader population of Virginians.”

“This agreement with Virginia Wesleyan College is another step in our continued effort to establish Virginia’s Community Colleges as an on-ramp to a four-year college degree and a high-quality, affordable option for families seeking access to higher education.  We are proud to work with Virginia Wesleyan, knowing that our partnership will benefit students and families across Virginia,” said Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s community colleges.

To be eligible for guaranteed admission, students must complete a transfer-oriented associate’s degree, and must have declared intent to transfer to Virginia Wesleyan College.

Students who transfer under the new agreement will be automatically considered for certain scholarships and grants offered at Virginia Wesleyan College, and will otherwise enjoy the same rights and responsibilities as native Virginia Wesleyan students.

The guaranteed admission agreement is the latest of a total of 19 statewide agreements adopted over the past two years with public and private four-year institutions. Additional comprehensive agreements are pending.

Statewide agreements are detailed on the web at:  http://www.vccs.edu/GuaranteedTransfer/tabid/257/Default.aspx.
