Dateline 2009 is a body of strategic goals, jointly developed by the State Board for Community Colleges, Chancellor, and college presidents to meet the critical needs of the Commonwealth. These goals are propelling Virginia’s community colleges forward, creating more opportunities for all Virginians and creating the economic vitality and skilled workforce Virginia needs.
- Serve at least 16,000 new students.
- Provide training each year for 225,000 individuals who choose noncredit training—an increase of nearly 80 percent.
- Rank in the top 10 percent of the nation’s community college systems in rates of student graduation, retention, and job placement.
- Triple the number of graduates who successfully transfer to four-year institutions.
- Limit tuition to half of the average cost to attend a public four-year institution in the Commonwealth.
- Triple the number of high school students who take college courses and receive college credits - raising the number from 14,000 to 45,000.
- Proactively secure private support to ensure the capacity to respond to the needs of the Commonwealth - doubling the Virginia community college foundations’ holdings from $75 million to $150 million.
