Name of Grants: Chancellor's Award for Exemplary Coaching 2009-10
Funding Source: Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Coaching is funded by both state and federal funds. Colleges receiving awards will receive official letter of award with funding source identified. In 2008-09, there were six distinct funding sources for career coach grants including: WIA/Incentive, Perkins, Tech Prep, and state funds. Current grant recipients can find request for reimbursement (or fiscal) forms below that are specific to the funding source for their college career coach grant(s). Purpose of Grant: All VCCS administered career coach grants provide support for payroll, benefits, and local and state travel for career coaches who are community college employees based in local high schools to facilitate college and career planning for high school students.
Population Served: High School students in high schools served by a career coach.

Name of Grant: Commonwealth Scholars 2009-10
Purpose of Grant: Commonwealth Scholars grants will provide community colleges and the school divisions served by those colleges with resources to initiate or expand the Commonwealth Scholars program in their community college service region. Commonwealth Scholars offers a program of study to students in high school that includes college preparatory courses in Math and Science as well as a CTE course. Commonwealth Scholars includes orientations to the program of study for 8th grade students; student enrichment activities to improve college and workforce readiness such as career coaching, early college placement testing, and Reality Stores; and parent outreach.
Population Served: 8th-12th grade students in school divisions partnering with community colleges to offer the Commonwealth Scholars program

Purpose of Grant: To enable colleges to align with the Institutes of Excellence legislative requirement to contribute to the “development of statewide training programs to meet current, high demand workforce needs of the Commonwealth
Population Served: Business and industry partnering with community colleges to offer the Institute of Excellence program.

1. Postsecondary Perkins Grants 2009-10
Name of Grant: Postsecondary Perkins
Funding Source: Carl D. Perkins Act of 2006
Purpose of Grant: Postsecondary Perkins grants are targeted to the improvement of community college career and technical education programs through the development and expansion of career pathways that prepare students for careers in high skills, high demand, or high wage fields and that connect employers to education. The VCCS Workforce Development Services division is responsible for administering Perkins programs at the post-secondary level at all 23 community colleges in VA.

Name of Grant: Online Jobs Database Project 2009-10
Funding Source: Perkins State Leadership Funds
Purpose of Grant:
The On-Line Jobs Database Project provides support to college career centers or other departments to manage and promote use by employers and students of an on line jobs database for college administered internships, co-ops, and other work-based learning as well as for community college graduates. Five colleges participated in the project in 2008-09 using e-Recruiting system.

Name of Grant: Tech Prep in Virginia
Funding Source: Tech Prep
Purpose of Grant: Tech Prep in Virginia grants are awarded annually to community colleges to support leadership and strategic activities of regional consortia that are charged to develop, support, and promote secondary to postsecondary career pathways that prepare students for continued education and job placement in high demand, high skills, and high wage careers.
