Questions about pre-licensing should be addressed to the Contractor Board at 804-367-8511. Exam information is available in the “Candidate Information Bulletin” from PSI Examination Services at http://www.psiexams.com/.

Materials are offered that will serve students beyond the course as a reference in conducting their construction business in Virginia. *Price of the class: $139.00-$200 (may vary depending on school).

The community colleges worked in conjunction with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations to develop and implement two courses for contractors. These courses are offered by several community colleges across the state.

Basic Contractor Business Licensing Class is an 8-hour course designed to provide a basic look at the statutes and regulations that govern contractor licensing in Virginia, including a review of the different types of licenses available and the qualifications for each, Standards of Practice, Prohibited Acts and How to Avoid Violations of the Regulations.

This course is not specifically designed to prepare the student to take the contractor licensing exams in Virginia.

The Advanced Contractor Business Licensing Course is designed to provide a basic understanding of business management subjects for contractor license applicants so that they may be successful in business as well as in taking the Class A and/or B contractor licensing exams in Virginia. This 30 hour course focuses on dealing with business and project management subjects relevant to contractors everywhere and on the unique contracting requirements of Virginia. During the course, participants learn how to avoid business failure by learning good managing practices. They also become familiar with useful reference books and materials including the NASCLA book and Virginia Rules and Regulations that are allowed in the open-book Class A and B examinations.

Both courses are recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Board for Contractors.
